President Hichilema Hosts United States Vice President Harris

President Hakainde Hichilema received Ms. Kamala Harris, Vice President of the United States of America at State House in Lusaka on 31st March, 2023.

President Hichilema and Vice President Harris held a bilateral meeting on important matters of mutual interest at bilateral, regional and global levels, including democracy, food security and sustainable economic growth.

The President reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to the shared values of political pluralism and democracy, respect for human rights, adherence to the rule of law, including accountable leadership that is transparent and respectable to the processes and institutions of governance.

The President expressed gratitude to the US Government for initiatives that advance the partnership between the two countries in commercial development; investment in democratic institutions and good governance; Innovative food security and climate solutions, and cooperation towards the health sector, among other areas.

The President also conveyed special thanks to President Joseph Biden and the people of the United States for their support in Zambia’s co-hosting of the Second Summit for Democracy held in Lusaka from 29th to 30th March, 2023.

While in Zambia, Vice President Harris announced US$16 million support towards the corruption fight and other reform programmes in Zambia, and over US$7 billion for Public/Private Sector investment in Africa which Zambia will benefit from. During the visit, Zambia and the United States signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Commercial Development to support the development and implementation of commercial projects as well as increase the flow of goods and services.
